BSPT tapered pipe

BSPT uses a 55° tapered pipe profile. The catalog shows nominal pipe sizes and TPI while dimensional results can be read in millimetres.

Example designation

1/16-28 BSPT

1/16
Nominal pipe size, separate from the pipe outside diameter.
28
Threads per inch; approximately 0.907 mm pitch.
BSPT
British standard pipe taper family.

Locate the gauge plane

The basic gauge length locates the gauge datum from the pipe face. Its minimum and maximum lengths describe the permitted axial range; the diameter rows retain their own face, gauge, or end locations.

Useful thread and assembly allowances

Useful external thread length, fitting allowance, and wrenching allowance describe different parts of the threaded connection. Carry each label into the part layout instead of treating them as interchangeable lengths.

55° wire geometry

The selected-wire calculation uses the BSP profile and a two-wire measurement at the gauge datum. Keep the wire size and datum together when recording a reading.
